Due to a race conflict, we had changed to the date for 2010 to June. The 2010 XTC Squamish event is tentatively set for Saturday, June 26, 2010. It will be part of the Triathlon BC Race Series for 2010 as well!

XTC SQUAMISH - PROVED TO BE "THE" LOCATION

Great weather, fun times and almost sold out (short of selling out by 5 people!). We are so pumped about this venue and can't wait for 2010!

It was a great day with some "first year at the new venue" gliches, but all in all we have received rave reviews. We will work on the gliches for 2010 and make the event even better! Thanks to all of you (and there were a ton!) who sent emails to us.

"Hey Teri - great job! The venue was awesome"

"Thank you for a very fun day – yes even the run"

"I just wanted to thank you and the volunteers for a marvellous day.

"Thanks for hosting such a great race. We all had a good time and loved the course.

"I had a great time racing yesterday ... Course was super fun"

"Yesterday’s race was lots of fun!! Great course all around with a little bit of everything on the bike and run!"

Those are just a few of the comments we have received! Mark your calendars for September 19, 2010!

Cheers and thanks for all your support!

XTC SQUAMISH SCHEDULE:

There have been changes to the XTC Squamish schedule. Please make sure you know how the day is going to unfold.

COURSE MAP:

We recommend riding with a course map. Due to lack of volunteers, we will not have course marshals on the course. We will have extensive flagging, arrows, landscape chalk and signs to keep you on course but it is always good to have a back up. Plus, sometimes other park users rip down our flagging, etc so again good to have a back up. Please download the map and bring it with you for the race.

RUN COURSE:

Hopefully you have seen by now that the run course is a 4.3km loop and read the course description. It will be 4.3km for the half and 8.6 for the full (two laps). This is a fun, very west coast, trail. It is TECHNICAL in parts so we made it a bit shorter. This means you will not be running a flat course. This is off-road not road! For any of you who did XTC Campbell River, there is a section similar to one section in that. It is a very technical descent. This means grabbing branches or whatever you can to clammer down in a section. It is not super long but wearing racing flats is NOT RECOMMENDED. Also, please be considerate of those around you and take care going down. A bunch of us ran it and loved it. Not everyone will but most will. In Campbell River people loved the challenge so put a smile on, don't try to be a super hero and have fun!

In addition there is a long, fire-road climb. Uggh for the full distance duathletes but you are duathletes so you love to run (or maybe hate to swim!)!

Don't forget that one section of the run course is shared with the full distance mountain bike. It is approximately 1km of trail. It is single track in sections so please be very considerate if you are run or biking on this section! When we picked the bike and run course, it was either have the bikers/runners sharing a 1km section or change the run course to an easy but longer course and have you share 6km of the course. The decision was obvious! We like to have runners and bikers on little to no trail together if possible.

PAY PARKING & DOGS!!!!!!!!! IMPORTANT!!

It is pay parking at Alice Lake. You are NOT ALLOWED TO PARK OUT ON THE ROADS! If you do, we risk not being able to have the event next year. Sea to Sky Parks have been very straight up about this. Please obey their request and don't ruin future races.

In addition NO DOGS ARE ALLOWED at the beach/grass area of Alice Lake. Again, Sea to Sky Parks told us they would not allow us to have future events there if this happens. PLEASE do not bring them to this area.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!

This has been a tough year for volunteers. A lot of events are feeling the crunch as are we. We are still in need of volunteers to help out with timing and with course marshalling. All volunteers for the adult race are entered for a pair of Brooks running shoes. It is a draw we are doing for just volunteers.

In addition, we need some volunteers for the kids race to be bike "bunnies" and run "bunnies" to make sure they stay on course. We also need course marshals. Please let us know if you can help out.Why not help out while you wait for the awards ceremony as the awards ceremony doesn't start until after the kids race.

FINAL NOTES:

There is a barbeque after the race which is free for participants. Spectators pay $3 for hotdog, pop and chips and $4 for hamburger, pop and chips. We donate money to a local charity which we believe will be the Squamish Trail Society this year.

The 12-15 age group race has been cancelled. We had only one youth signed up and we needed a bunch of extra volunteers for their course so we have cancelled it for this year.

See you soon!
